Luis Sharpe, a former lineman for the St. Louis Rams and the Arizona Cardinals will face some prison time that could be as long as six years after he plead guilty to four drug charges being held against him on Friday.
The former star did not waiver in his plea, as reported by Yahoo! Sports: He has been plagued by drug problems since 1995 and spent several months in prison after a drug conviction in 2000. He also was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison in 2004 on other drug charges. Sharpe pleaded guilty Thursday in Maricopa County Superior Court to charges stemming from separate arrests for possessing crack cocaine in July and November of 2007 and February 2008. Sharpe is scheduled to be sentenced May 9 and the county Attorney’s Office said he faces a maximum of six years in prison along with probation.
Sharpe was a three-time Pro Bowl selection during his career that spanned more than a decade.
